Lango RDCs Recorgnize Okune's Election, Pledge to accord him support

Lira, Uganda: Paramount Chief "Elect" of Lango, Dr. Eng Moses Micheal Odongo Okune has reaffirmed his commitment to strike down poverty which is a greatest enemy causing conflicts in the community.
Addressing delegation of Resident District commissioners from Lango and section of clan leaders at the Lango Cultural Foundation center in Lira City, Dr. Okune noted poverty contributes 99 percent of the current problems in Lango subregion. He cited that cases like witchcraft, marriage desertion, domestic violence land conflicts among other are due to poverty.
Dr. Okune whose planed coronation is due promised to usher in a new leadership with a world outlook that embraces peace and unity with modern ideology that supports government development programs.
The incoming cultural Chief further recalled how Lango community in the past would celebrate the loss of NRM party and he disclosed being in opposition greatly affected development of Lango by then.
He assured presidential aides in Lango that his team will work hand in hand with the government in power to deliver and implement government programs.
Commenting about the rival factions, he said there is need to engage them so that they all be on board to promote lango development.
He further urged RDCs in Lango to ensure there is peace and unity in the community.
Currently , 2.8 billion Ugx shillings has been earmarked for the coronation of the new Wonyaci which shall take place on the 2nd of November 2024 .
Different set of cultural activities will be performed to grace the occasion.
Meanwhile, the deputy dean of RDCs and RCcs in Uganda Oguti Sebastian Austim called upon his fellow resident district commissioners to extend support to the current leaders of Lango Cultural Institution since they are proactive and ready to work with the government in fulfilling Presidential vision of wealth creations.
Recently Lira City was rated among the places with HIV prevalence rate, Commissioner Oguti appealed to cultural leaders to join Govt in the struggle to end the increasing cases of HIV by 2030. He equally advised them to express transparency in settling the issue of Lango wrangles.
In addition, RDC Alebtong Jillian Akullu Omara expressed gratitudes towards the election of Okune as Paramount Chief of Lango. She assured Okune of support in the all means including providing security during coronation on the 2nd November 2024 to make the historical event colourful.
Recently while on Voice of Lango Fm radio in Lira City, Gender Minster Betty Amongi Akena declared Eng Dr Odongo Okune as a new elected Wonyaci of Lango pending coronation on the 2nd of November 2024 to receive leadership mantle from the retiring Wonyaci of Lango, H.H Yosam Odur Ebii of Lango Cultural Foundation.
She further revealed the election Okune can only be overruled by court of law.
