Kisoro By-election: NRM calls for Unity Behind their flag bearer Rose Kabagyeni

Kisoro, Uganda: The NRM leadership has urged all party supporters to throw their weight behind Rose Kabagyeni, the party flag bearer in the Kisoro district woman Member of Parliament in the upcoming by-election.

The team from the party headquarters, one after another, who spoke at various rallies in Rubuguri and Nkuringo town councils, Bukimbiri County, called on the voters to reconcile and rally behind Kabagyeni, who was elected to carry the NRM ticket in a race to replace the late Sarah Mateke.

The NRM Deputy National Treasurer, Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, said their candidate is poised to win despite the return of some candidates who lost in the NRM primaries but chose to contest as independents.

“We urge the people of Kisoro to reject such persons because every organisation, including our party, has rules that must be followed. We are committed to winning this election, and we call upon the local NRM leaders in Kisoro, particularly the LC3 chairpersons, to refrain from supporting an independent candidate using party resources,” Kyatuhaire said during the rallies.

“The reception from the locals is good and encouraging. I hope we all remain strong, committed and determined to achieve victory for the NRM,” she added.

The NRM Director of Mobilisation, Hon. Rosemary Seninde, said the party candidate should be given a mandate to parliament because NRM has the best interests of the people of Kisoro district.

“Our efforts focus on reminding the people of Kisoro why they should vote for the NRM candidate. NRM’s purpose is rooted in unity, and its pillars are built on bringing people together. We don’t want divisions based on religion or tribal differences to disrupt this unity. If people in Kisoro allow themselves to be divided by such factors, it would be a setback for everyone. Our goal is to unite the people and work together to secure a win for NRM in this election,” Seninde said.

Ms Rose Kabagyeni assured the voters of her commitment to serve all people to ensure there is better service delivery.

“I have little time to campaign but my message is clear to the voters. Vote for NRM to have peace, stability, growth and development,” Kabayeni said.

On her campaign trail, the NRM flagbearer was accompanied by other NRM secretariat officials, including Mr. Rogers Mulindwa (senior manager for communications), Mr. Samuel Eyenga (senior manager for mobilisation), and a member of the NRM District Executive Committee (DEC), along with other party leaders in the district.

In the morning, the NRM team visited the family of the late Hon. Sarah Mateke, former Minister of State for Defence and Woman MP for Kisoro, and daughter of veteran leader and NRM District Chairman Dr. Philemon Mateke, at his home in Kisoro.

They expressed condolences to the family, laying a wreath on Hon. Sarah Mateke’s grave and honouring her dedicated service to Uganda
