Gen.Otema Gaining More Supports in his new move to contest for Gulu City West MP
Lt Gen. Charles Otema Awany, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Reserve Force Commander, has said he is receiving overwhelming supports from residents of Bardege _Layibi Division as 2026 draws nearer.
Gen. Otema recently kicked off consultative meetings in several parishes within the Bardege-Layibi Division where he intends to vie for the Gulu West Constituency Parliamentary seat to unseat Martin Ojara Mapenduzi MP of Gulu City West Division.
Speaking to media in Oyam after attending memorial prayer service of the late Minister Okello Engola, said his has been overwhelmed by number of voters at his home demanding him to come and contest for MP seat for Gulu City West.
He said if people want him to stand and lead them, he will wait for 2026 and participate but not at this early stage now.
Lt, General Charles Otema Awany has been praised by majority population in Gulu City for his active participation in the fight for peace in the area.
He is also as well, regarded as a peace marker and developer in Lango ang Acholi Land.
In his hands, Otema has raised and developed many poor orphans, young people to become successful in life.
According to the community, his coming to politic will save them from worst leaders whom they accused of working for their personal gains only.
While addressing the mourners during the memorial prayer, Gen Otema praised family of late Okello Engola for upholding the legacy of their Father.
" I want to thank Junior for keeping the home of his late father organized, when I was coming I never expect to find the home of late Okello Engola more organized like this, I so impressed continue keeping the legacy and home of your Father."
