Lango Cultural Foundation Picks Delegations for Reconciliation

Lira_Uganda: The council meeting of Owitong under Lango Cultural Foundation chaired by Dr. Lorry Lawrence Ocen has picked seven  delegation members to represent them in the upcoming  peace and reconciliation meeting over cultural disputes.

Currently , leaders of Lango Interreligious Council are pushing for a round table meeting with both factions to address the issue.

On Friday during their meeting, the team under Yosam Odur Ebii resolved to send their delegate members in the meeting with tough conditions to be meant which among them calling for  fresh election of the Paramount Chief of Lango.

They dditionally resolved  to move on with their  electoral road map untill the issue is independently addressed.

Chrispus Ayena Odongo, the lead lawyer in Ongwen case also one of the clan members said their activities is within the legal protection.

He said their team should stand on that ground and pray for the fresh election among others.

Among the delegate members picked are Prime Minister James Ajal, Tom Anang Odur, ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul one of the aspirants for Wonyaci, Dr. Lorry Ocen their speaker, Benjamin Okii of Okiibura and Fred Ogwal Eyee of Inino Clan among others including their legal team.

Previously, the camp of Tekwaro headed  by Dr. Moses Micheal Odongo Okune had maintained their stand  not  to involve themselves in the process.

Willy Omodo Omodo, Wontok of Tekwaro Lango in response disclosed that their members will not participate in the process. He added that their election was cleared by court.

Mr.Omodo Omodo further described the peace talk as another " joke of the year".

While on voice of  Lango fm, Minister of gender, labor and social development, Hon.Betty Amongi Akena declared Eng. Dr. Moses Micheal  Odongo Okune as dully elected Paramount Chief of Lango.She added that any attempt to remove him from office will only be granted by court not any activities.

Responding to the question of not following the law, Minister Amongi revealed,  all the due process were meant in consultation with attorney general.

However, her move to declare Okune as a dully elected Paramount Chief of Lango has faced condemnations  from section of  clan leaders loyal to the sitting Paramount Chief, Yosam Odur. They accused her of taking side with Okune in the process.

While at State House Entebbe, the fountain of honor, president Museveni advised the two rival factions to embrace reconciliation or court to address their issue.

Anti Okune's camp want the election to be nullified as one of the conditions during the reconciliation process. Mr. Benjamin Okii has disclosed this.

H.E called the Lango religious leaders to spearhead the process .
