Kole : MP Alyek Urges Govt to Give More Support to cooperative Society in Lango

Kole, Uganda :  Kole district woman Member of Parliament has tasked government to accord more support to cooperative societies in Lango subregion.

Judith Alyek ,also chairperson Lango parliamentary group made the statement yesterday while officiating as the chief guest during the opening of farming year 2024 Season A and celebrating silver jubilee of Alito Joint Farmers Multiple purpose cooperative society limited at Awili village,Lwala parish- Okwerodot subcounty in Kole district.

Alyek said doing commercial agriculture has become so hard since the government is giving only one tractor per district which can never help a cooperative society comprising of many farmers.

She tasked the government to identify such cooperatives and give many tractors so that farmers are able to tilt their gardens,plant their crops and harvest it.

Alyek argued the government to give more support to the farmers on value addition and trainings.

 Isaac Okello,the Programs coordinator of the cooperative said,their major target is to impart knowledge to the farmers so that they are able to produce quality products and source for better markets.He also said they source for seeds for their farmers and make sure they increase on their productivity.

Speaking at the same event,Tom Ogwal Ekuka, one of the board members at the cooperative testified that what kept them moving for the last 25 years is team spirit and cooperation among the farmers.

He also said prompt payment of the farmers after bulking kept them moving for all this years.

Patrick Obong,a farmer from Otwal subcounty in Oyam district happily said the cooperative is supplying them quality seeds which has made them realize good products and ready markets.He added that so far he has bought a motorcycle and built a iron sheet house and he is able to pay his children at school.

Alito joint farmers multiple purpose cooperative society has over 16,000 farmers.The celebration was marked under the theme'' Taking farming as a business for improved livelihood and sustainable development ''.
