Maximizing the oilseeds value chain development for inclusive and sustainable development of Lango Region
.
OPINION: We must continue to purpose a people-centric approach in the development of the Lango oilseeds value chain. This model emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and value-based wealth creation, benefiting both investors and the local community.
1. Inclusive Participation: Engaging local farmers, cooperatives, and small enterprises to ensure that the benefits of the oilseeds value chain are widely distributed both vertically and horizontally. This will be actualized through training, resources, and support to improve productivity and sustainability.
2. Value Addition: Instead of merely producing raw materials, the value chain interventions must focus on processing and adding value to oilseeds locally even with small solar oil press equipment run by farmers on their sites. This technology is available and Clean Energy Partnership Africa is leading this within the region. This way, we shall create jobs, enhance skills, and increase the economic benefits for the region and beyond.
3. Sustainable Practices: Lets not ignore the impact of this economic activity on land and climate formation. We encourage sustainable agricultural practices to ensure long-term productivity and environmental health, which will benefit both the community and investors for the long term.
4. Market Access: Facilitating better access to markets for local producers as being supported by the Center for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries (CBI) Netherlands. We shall negotiate for fair prices and compete effectively by improving quantity and quality. This will be made possible by creating better infrastructure, establishing cooperatives, and leveraging technology among other strategies.
5. Collaborative Efforts: We must work together. The Partnerships between and among ourselves as local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and private investors will drive development. These collaborations will be strengthened to provide the necessary funding, expertise, and policy support to nurture the value chain.
6. Economic Empowerment: By focusing on wealth creation that is value-based, the model will uplift the socio-economic status of local communities, leading to improved livelihoods and reduced poverty.
Implementing these strategies will harness the full potential of the oilseeds sub-sector in the Lango region, making it a robust model for inclusive and sustainable development. Lets drive Lango regional socio-economic growth through well organized, self-governed, strategic Lango private sector which is inclusive and futuristic.
