A P.7 Graduate Earns 1.5M Ugx Monthly after following Museveni's preaching on commerical agriculture
Lira Ug: President, Museveni in his message has been urging Ugandans to embrace commercial agriculture inorder to improve on their income, in Lira City Jasper Okello ,a-50-year- old man who has embraced it has starting earning more in his village.
Okello a resident of Anai Ober cell,Anai ward,Lira City West Division, Lira City in Lango sub-region of Northern Uganda who used to live without anything on table today, Now earns big in livestock farming.
At his farm, Okello told me that he was inspired by the message from the fountain of honor about investing into agriculture as the country, though he didn't remember the real date, the joyful Okello said it was in 2018 that he begun his poultry farming with little resources.
Moving around his hatchery and a locally made incubator , which uses a regulator that switch of the bulb automatically to regulate temperature suitable for the hatching of about 900-1000 eggs within the incubation period of 21 days, Okello revealed that he earns more than 1 million Ugx month out of the farm.
"My cash collection monthly is 1.5 million shillings from the hatchery, because l get 1000 shillings per egg to people who bring their eggs to hatch."
This hardworking old man now has 80 parents stocks of matured ready chickens.
His farm is in a piece of land measuring 11 metres by 24 width. Besides poultry, he is also as well keeping both rubbits and piggery on the same land.
When about about treatment, he said he always used
ancestral herbs around the community to treat his bird and animals.
On a daily basis he collects two trays of eggs and loads 600 eggs with a high hatchability.
The feeds of the chicken lies on six different aspects of feeds including calcium , protein ,Fats , vitamin , carbohydrates and salts.
As a progressive farmer, Okello intends to conduct a research on how to make indigenous local bread of chicken in Lango sub-region and set up a model farm in Lango to encourage others to join the field.
Okello said his lack of formal education will not hold him from achieving goals, he urged the education community not only to look for jobs but start something for survival.
" I have now employed myself and earning 1.5 Million Ugx, please I appeal to you, let's take commerical agriculture serious, it's has an impact to the community." he adds.
He sells the young chicks at 3,000 shillings and also sells the parents atock rangin from between 30,000-40,000 shillings on a daily basis.

He commended government for introducing PDM programs, and asked them to support creative farmers with capital for expansion of their farms.
