Lango Elders  Welcome Peace Talk  among clan leaders amidst resistance from Okune's Camp

Apac, Uganda/People of Lango subregion have entirely welcomed the decision by Lango interreligious Council to reconcile the two rival Lango cultural leaders amidst resistance from other camp headed by Engineer, Dr. Moses Micheal Odongo Okune.

Recently Bishop Alfred Olwa of Anglican church in Lango Diocese wrote to the two groups informing about the sechudled date for reconciliation meeting in Kamapla earlier next month, however, Okune's  side is protesting  the move saying they are established within the legal entity. 

Mr. Willy Omodo Omodo, the speaker of Lango Cultural Institution representating Okune's camp told media that the proposed peace negotiation is a waste of time and another "joke of the year"

He added, march election that placed Okune in leadership was cleared by court and there is no need for reconciliation.

Following the spiritual father letter, several peace lovers in Lango have welcomed the decision stating. " It's tool for ending leadership disputes in Lango".

Also in different social media platforms, social media users have embraced the move and urged both parties to put a side personal differences and participate for the seek of Lango community. 

" Anyone rejecting a peaceful negotiation among the clan leaders is an enemy to Lango Development, we have suffered enough over this issue" 

From the side of Odur, the current Paramount  Chief of Lango, clan members are ready and willing to participate in the process. Dr. Richard Nam of Okiiamat  himself a former Prime Minister of Lango Cultural Foundation,  said their team has accepted the decision.

Dr. Nam who is also among the aspiring candidates  for Wonyaci  said they want election of Odongo Okune being nufiled as one conditions during the negotiation. 

Benjamin Okii another clan member also welcomed the move.

Alice Akite, an elderly woman urged the two parties to consider the interests of lango during the negotiation.

Recently, while hosting clan leaders from Lango at State House Entebbe, H.E president YK Museveni condemned disputes among Lango Cultural leaders and advised them to seek reconciliation or handle their grievances in the competent court.

He further urged Lango religious leaders to spearhead the reconciliation process.

Currently, Minister of Gender,  Labor and social development has gazetted Eng Dr. Moses Micheal Odongo Okune as the Paramount Chief of Lango Cultural Institution effective November, 2024. 

In the gazette, His Highness, Yosam Odur Ebii the sitting Paramount Chief office will expire in November 2024.

According to ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul one of the candidates in the race of Wonyaci under Lango Cultural Foundation said they will challenge the Minister's decision to gazette Odongo Okune.
