Lango Local  Leaders welcome Court Ruling over Cultural Leadership Disputes, Call for Respect of  Lango Chief Yosam Odur

Lira-UG| The Leadership of Lango local council governments have welcomed the Thursday ruling of Lira high court that declared that both the election of Eng. Dr. Moses Micheal Odongo Okune and Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul is null and void and and ordered for express restoration of leadership of H.H Yosam Odur as Wonayci of Lango.

In the ruling of learned justice Phillip Odoki ,he avered that both Okul and Okune should stop conducting cultural activities as wonyaci and allow Wonyaci Yosam Odur to enjoy his throne.

Addressing journalists after the court ruling, David Kennedy Odongo,the Chairperson LC 5 Alebtong District also the leader of all LCV Chairpersons in Lango and Mayor’s said as the local government leaders they have welcomed the ruling saying it will resolve the cultural conflicts in Lango.

According to DK Odongo as he is Populary known ,as leaders they have been yearning for restoration of peace and tranquility and this ruling will address the perinial war that had dogged Lango for a while.

"We cannot have two paramount chiefs in Lango, we are happy and we shall embrace the leadership of Mzee Yosam Odur as our leader, let's now have respect for our elders" Odongo said.

Just few hours after the ruling , the newly elected president of Uganda local government Association Andrew Awany who doubles as the LCV chairman of Kole district is among t leaders who have shared the congratulatory message about the ruling. He urged Okune’s camp to join Yosam and work together for the development of lango instead of fueling conflict in Lango.

Uganda's ambassador to Sudan,Dickson Ogwang Okul who has also been affected by this ruling said he is humbled by the ruling and he is ready to serve under Mzee Yosam.

Meanwhile, Lango Cultural Institution under Okune has vowed to challenge the ruling in the court of appeal.
