Minister Aceng to continue lobbying for the women of Lira City in her women's Day message

Lira City:International Women's Day, observed every year on March 8th, is one of the most significant days of the year for honouring women's accomplishments, promoting gender equality, advocating for faster gender parity, and other activities that support women to thrive. 

We also take this day to celebrate all women's social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments. This day should be a reminder for us to collectively support gender parity. 

To celebrate this day on 8th March 2023, I have transported a total of 32 women (a representation of women of Lira City) selected from the two Divisions of Lira City to travel and celebrate this day in Katakwi. The women left on 7th March, in the morning. They reached in the evening, rested and were ready for the function today, and were ready to cheer up with their fellow women from other regions. 

As the theme for this year dictates, investing in women, accelerating progress, and targeting economic disempowerment should be the talk of the year. 

Since 2020, I have been supporting various women initiatives in Lira City. Notably, several women saving groups and SACCOs benefited from the initiative through grants. The program is still ongoing, and I will ensure that it continues, and I will continue to lobby for more support for the women of Lira City. I am so proud of the women of Lira City because they are hardworking and they are engaged in several economic activities that make them self-reliant. 

It’s unfortunate that women still have to fight for their rights. We still live in a society where being a woman is not respected. Let’s remind ourselves that our mothers, sisters, and daughters are absolutely amazing, and they deserve so much more. Let's support women and respect them because they deserve it. 

Without a powerful ally like a "woman" at every stage of life, from conception to marriage, from baby to daughter, this life would not exist.
