President Museveni to Attend Dr. Okune’s Coronation as Next Won Nyaci

Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni according to a reliable source in State House will attend and grace the coronation of Dr. Eng. Michael Moses Odongo Okune as the next Won Nyaci (Paramount Chief) of Lango.

The landmark cultural event will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at the Mayor’s Garden in Lira City.

A source at State House has confirmed that the President’s programs within the first week of November includes attending the Coronation of a new Lango Cultural leader and that all the arrangements have been made in place. This is contrary to initial reports that he had opted to first wait until all the current dispute is resolved if he is the be involved.

President will leave Kisozi on Saturday morning after engaging with the NRM MPs on Friday and travel straight to Lira City to preside over the event according to the source.

The source revealed that the President is expected to have a special engagement with the Government Chief Whip shortly after the Friday meeting about the even and if possible travel to Lira together in his chopper.

The source further revealed that the President is also expected to handover a brand new VIP vehicle to enrich the motorcade of the new Won Nyaci of Lango in addition to presenting to him relevant security lead cars, among others. In fact, the source revealed that Dr. Okune’s security detail has clandestinely been activated and reloaded with both combat and plain clothed intelligence officers.

According to a reliable source, the president will also, among other declarations, reaffirm the government’s commitment to build the Lango Cultural Palace, which has been pending for years.

“While there, the Head of State will also make a deliberate commitment to ensure that the outgoing Lango Paramount Chief Yosam Odur retires gracefully, and that his faction will also surely be engaged at a high level in attempt to end the current dispute once for all,” a source said.

So far, more than 40 local journalists from Lango have been accredited to cover the event.

We were not able to independently verify the decision to engage Yosam and his group, but what we can confirm is that President Museveni will attend the coronation event.
