LASA Kyambogo Elected Vice President Dolly Akello Ongom Calls for Promotion of Education in Lango
The newly elected vice president of LASA Kyambogo University, Dolly Akello Ongom has urged the people of Lango sub region to unite and promote education standards.
Akello delivered this key note address to the journalists during the handover ceremony which took place over the weekend.
She expressed joy over the overwhelmeing number of Lango students who have joined the association.The number is 700.
The coloured ceremony was presided by Dr.Obua who was the chief.
In his remarkable speech,Dr.Bua appreciated the Lango Students Association for the team spirit and hardwork which has seen the association move to greater heights.
He appreciated Otuke District for sending the highest number of Lango students and encouraged them to always be united inorder to foster the spirit.
The main aims and objectives of the formation of LASA is geared towards
_ Promoting unity among Lango students
_Ensuring education in lango is promoted.
_Guidance and counseling the depressed students.
_Helping the needy students especially those who might encounter minor basic problems such as food and accomodation among others.
Akello Ongom narrated that the challenge they face are financial constraints requesting the parents, MPs and cultural leaders in Lango sub-region to support them because students always undergo several problems that needs to be addressed within the LASA setting.
She said recently they organised a porridge night which brought together several students from Lango origin thereby sharing experience including those from Lira ,Abia ,Dokolo ,Otuke , Amolatar,Kwania ,Oyam ,Lira City among others.
She appreciated some Prominent MPs such as Gov't Chief whip hon. Denis Hamson Obua,Hon.Akena Jimmy Obote,Hon.Alyek Judith the chairperson LPG, Minister Betty Amongi Akena and Dr.Jane.Ruth Aceng amongi others for always spearheading good development among the Lango people.
Reagan Ongom, the father to Dolly Ongom who doubles as the clan leader of cabaokol clan ,in Nga-kwiya village ,Walela parish,Ayami sub-county ,Erute North Constituency in Lira district Commended the LASA membership for trusting her daughter in such a high profile position of leadership.
Ongom added that the young generation who are in universities such as Kyambogo u,Makerere,Lira and Gulu university are the future leaders of tomorrow and whenever they are back from school, they should encourage their fellow students to aim higher through education.
He urged fellow owitong to foster education and said although the cost of living is high,the key to a better life is Education only because charity begins from home.
Ongom Reagan said as parents they are in the evenings of their life and students (or generation Z )are in the mornings of their life who are still energetic to develop the clan ,Lango tribe and Uganda in general hence, must consider education as a stepping stone number one in improving their standards of living in the future.
