LANGO; Science Teachers Receive Training to improve Performance

Lango- Uganda; Masaba Nasur Mwamba, an educational expert   has advised mathematics teachers in Lango to atleast consider using  both local language and English while teaching mathematics.

Mwamaba who was this week training secondary science teachers under their umbrella, Secondary Science and Mathematics Teachers Association Lango said if Math’s teachers deploy use of the two languages, students will understand its concepts better.

 The training which is aimed at improving performance in science subjects in Lango will be concluded at the end of this week.

Teachers are receiving refresher training on the new curriculum and important issues relating to science subject. 

In delivering his speech, the Chairperson of Lango Secondary School Science Teachers, George M. Okwee said inspite of salary increment for science teachers, the region is still behind in term of  performance in science subjects. 

‘’ Government has done it's part by increasing your salary but still science subjects are poorly done as compared to arts subjects where their teachers are not earning a lot.’’ Okwee said. 

He therefore challenge them to ensure improvement in performance in the region.

 

Okwee who is also the Head teacher of Amac Complex School in Lira District urged parents also to always be close and give support to their schools.

 

On the same viewpoint,  Kizito Obua,  a member of the Lango Science Teachers Association called on his fellow teachers not to be silent with some of the challenges they are facing at their schools but instead share them with their headteachers. 

By doing this, Mr. Obua have confidence that it will address the issue of poor performance.

Meanwhile, the head teacher of Lango College Sam Bob Okino said they have reduced fees since many parents in the region are grappling with economic hardships.

Okino added that continuous capacity bbuilding for teachers will address the gap in performance  in Lango sub region.   

He lastly called for support from the community to various schools in Lango.
