Lira City, Uganda: Amuca Primary School in Lira City, under the capable leadership of Omonya Mapius, stands out as one of the leading institutions in both sports and academics. Research conducted by this publication indicates that Amuca, a government-aided school, has consistently participated in national sporting events, including a recent appearance in Mukono District, where it nearly represented Uganda at the East Africa Games.

In addition to its sporting achievements, the school has made significant strides in academic performance.

Unlike previous years when candidates struggled to achieve satisfactory grades, the current results are impressive, with all candidates performing well.

According to one of the  officials at the school,  in 2024  all 53 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) candidates passed and qualified for the next level of education.

Situated along the Lira-Kampala Highway, the school is taking measures to enhance discipline by constructing a wall around its compound, which will provide security for both students and staff. In his remarks, the exemplary Headteacher, Mr. Omonya, emphasized the development of strategies aimed at improving overall performance.

"We aim to nurture our children's futures beyond academics. We have introduced guidance and counseling programs to instill discipline and help them navigate challenges," he stated. He credited the improved performance in both academics and sports to teamwork and the commitment of parents in supporting their children's education.

Currently, Amuca Primary School has an enrollment of 1,658 students, ranging from Primary One to Primary Seven. To further promote talent, the school has established  a sport academy, allowing pupils to receive regular training in various sports disciplines.

Last term, three athletes from Amuca Primary School represented Lira City at the national school games competition held in Soroti, located in eastern Uganda. Additionally, their  girls' team participated in FUFA Odilo Championship  2024 at the regional level in Gulu, reaching the semi-finals.

According to school administrators, students involved in sports are consistently motivated.
