Nebbi Leaders to meet Headteachers as Lightning strike leaves 77 Pupils injured

Nebbi, UG| District leaders are preparing to hold an emergency meeting with all the District headteachers following an incident where 77 Pupils were on Wednesday struck while gathered to attend a interface football game in Owilo Primary school in Ndhew subcounty.

The incident according to environmental specialist was linked to lack of lightning arrestors on buildings at the school.

Wilson Odwokacen the headteacher of Owilo primary school confirmed this incident. He added the 77 including a teacher and they were all rushed to a near by hospital.

In interview on phone, RDC Abak of Nebbi said him and his  Chief Administrative officer will next have a meeting with all headteachers both primary and secondary schools to discuss schools can be assisted to acquire lightning arrestors equipments on the buildings to avoid reoccurrence of such incidents.

"We will advise them to adjust their budget and put a priority in purchasing the equipment." He added.

Abak however, condemned some community for  looting and breaking the equipment which was earlier installed by government.

According to district leaders, almost 95 percent of rural schools in Nebbi are in operational with lightning arrestors on the building which puts children and teachers at risk.
