Proscovia Ayo Otyek has appealed to the general populace in Lango and the entire country to embrace the ongoing exercise by National Identification and Registration Authority- NIRA that has currently embarked on a countywide mass registration of Ugandans aged 17 and bove.

NIRA is Government Authority that was put in Place by the Government of Uganda in 2013 to register and issue National identity cards, Register resident aliens and issue them with Alien identity cards, Register Births, Deaths, and adoption orders and issue certificates, as well as to create, manage, maintain and operate the National identification Register.

Ayo who has been a loyal carder of the ruling National Resistance Movement party and also a dedicated mobiliser is the Assistant Resident District Commissioner incharge of Lira district.

While appearing on a radio talk show on Lango's leading and mighty FM station Radio Qfm which broadcasts on Frequency Modulation 94.3 Saturday evening,Commisioner Ayo underscored the importance of a national Identicard to Ugandans and urged the people of Lango to ensure they participate in this exercise.

"For you to access the Parish development model funds,you need a national ID,if you must open a bank account,you also need a national ID" Ayo emphasised as she wooed the locals to embrace this mass registration by NIRA.

According to Ayo,NIRA has rolled out registration of Uganda citizens aged 17 and above so they an aquire National Idneticards most importantly to be eligible to contest and vote in the 2026 general elections.

Commisioner Ayo also appealed to school authorities to allow NIRA officials have access to their premises in a bid to successfully register students who have attained the age of 17 since they shall be alegible to vote in 2016.

Meanwhile Proscovia Ayo in the same Radio Talkshow also cautioned entrepreneurs in the money lending industry to desist from the illegal practise of withholding National Identicards as a collateral for individuals who go to seek for loans from their institutions.

"No one should withdraw your National Indeticard as a security to access a loan,this is is illegal and we shall arrest such people if we receive such reports" Commisioner Ayo warned.

Her warning follows a recent statement by her appointing authority- president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who warned money lenders against the illegal practices of withdrawing from borrowers their National Indenticrards stating that it is ultravias and not acceptable.
