MP Auma Pledges Full support to Lango War Claimants
Lira, Uganda : Agness Linda Auma, the independent woman Member of Parliament for Lira District and aligned with the NRM, has reiterated her dedication to advocating for cattle compensation for her constituents in Lango.
This statement came after she led a delegation of Lango war claimants during the first regional Parliamentary sessions in Gulu, Northern Uganda. The delegation submitted a petition to Parliament highlighting the delays and irregularities in the compensation process.
In her comments to the media in Lango subregion on Saturday, Auma called on the government to accelerate compensation payments for the Lango people, who have faced considerable hardships during the Northern Uganda conflict.
She stressed the importance of prioritizing the claims of Lango residents who have suffered significant losses of property and livestock due to the war, over those from other areas.
Joined by Mosese Ogwang Adonyo, Chairperson of Lango War Claimants Association, Auma urged her fellow Lango leaders to come together in this effort. As a key representative for the Lango Parliamentary group, alongside Judith Alyek, the woman MP for Kole District also their leader , brought the issue of cattle compensation to the attention of President Museveni, along with other concerns raised by Lango leaders.
The delegation's participation was well-received by the Lango community. Auma expressed her resolve, stating that she would continue to fight for cattle compensation, even if she had to do so alone, until the president addresses the issue. "I am a member of the NRM by conviction, and I will persist in advocating for the community's welfare, regardless of political affiliations," she affirmed.
Auma also highlighted that beneficiaries holding letters of administration for deceased parents have been neglected in the compensation process, urging the Attorney General's office to take their claims into account. Meanwhile, Moses Ogwang Adonyo, the Chairperson of the Lango War Claimants Association, also cautioned some of the district officials against keeping away data cards from the beneficiaries. He added this will affect the process.
In his recent address to Parliament, H.E noted the issue and promised to engage affected regional leaders to seek for a better solution.
