Bunyoro Leaders Praise Late Dr. Abiriga as a transparent Officer

Masindi-Uganda; The mood in Masindi remains somber as residents continue mourning for the demise of the former DHO, Late Dr. Jino Abiriga who was brutally murdered. Since then, residents and leaders have condemned the gruesome act and further eulogized the deceased as someone who was committed, passionate and hardworking as he executed his duties.

 They added his departure will not easily be replaced in the Health sector.

“We have lost someone who is irreplaceable; hardworking and committed medical officer whom shouldn’t have been brutally murdered” residents added.

Recently while paying their tributes to their departed comrade, councilors described him a true servent who could not engage himself dirty business while at work. 

In his condolence message, Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi district LCV Chairperson, eulogized Abiriga as a committed and hardworking civil servant who was always available for any task assigned to him.

His boss, Phionah Sanyu, the Chief Administrative Officer Masindi, said Late Dr. Abiriga (RIP) has been a team player, professional, resilient, and upright technical officer of high integrity.

“For the time Dr. Abiriga has been the acting DHO, I didn’t have any issues with his office ” Masindi CAO said.

On the same note, Ronald Businge Kyomuhendo, the Masindi Municipal Mayor, asked mourners to desist from killing their colleagues over money or earthly wealth, stressing that Abiriga has left a very big gap in the health sector that can’t easily be covered.

He called upon police to expedite their investigations so that the culprits can be apprehended and arrained in courts of law.

On 7th /1/2024, the lifeless body of Dr. Abiriga was found lying near his residence in Kijura North cell, Central Division in Masindi Municipality by one of the residents.

His body was discovered in the morning with deep cuts and wounds.

 Since then up to date, Police and other security agents have intensified investigation into the case to find the key suspects.

The deceased’s premises were visited and according to a regional Police spokesman of Albertine, sample of blood stains were found at his home. 

This immediately made security to suspect that some of the family members participated in this criminal act, both his woman and three Children were arrested to support the investigations.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Police Spokesman, Albertine Region confirmed to Media.

However, he said upon internalization of the case, the three children were cleared of any role in their father’s brutal murder.

He added they were set free to allow them bury their father.

Why the widow was arrested. 

Cherotic Betty a 31 was arrested  upon the search conducted at deceased’s premises. Police alleged that blood stains were discovered during the search.

Speaking to this publication, Simon Peter Kahwa the LC1 Chairperson of Kijura North who was shocked by this inhuman act done said it’s a rare incidence in his area.

 He strongly condemned the heartless act saying the perpetrators should be brought to book.

 “It is sad that this has happened in my area and the act being done on the person who saved many lives, besides the late had never been involved  into any conflict’’. He wondered.

A closed source has disclosed to us that the accused widow Cherotic was on Thursday brought to court amidst tight security to prevent mob justice.  

Who is Dr. Abiriga? 

Born of 1971 in Tumvia village, Ofude Parish, Tara Sub-county in Maracha District, the late Dr Abiriga attended his primary from Ofude and Kololo Primary schools till 1985, later joined St Joseph college Ombachi for “O” and “A” level (1986-1992) and finally joined Mbarara University Science and Technology on Government sponsorship where he did Human medicine in 1992-1997 then later internship and thereafter was enrolled by government and deployed at Masindi Hospital in 1999 till 2022 then promoted to DHO till his death in 2024.

The fallen health worker has left behind children and wives.
