CONFESSION! I didn't Attack Lango Musicians -Prince Yubu

Gulu, Uganda: Renowned music artist Yubu Onyong aka Prince Yubu has stepped forward to elucidate his recent remarks, which were perceived as a critique of the music industry in Lango.

Yubu, a beacon of hope who has uplifted countless souls and inspired aspiring musicians across northern Uganda, addressed this outlet regarding his latest message. He clarified that while he did indeed challenge certain musicians, his intention was to deliver a crucial wake-up call to those straying from their artistic path. In a widely circulated video, Prince Yubu was seen characterizing some Lango artists as gamblers, a statement that some felt undermined their credibility.

The esteemed gospel musician expressed that his message aimed to inspire Lango artists to shift their mindset and aspire for greatness, rather than merely associating with already successful musicians. Onyong, who has gained recognition through his musical endeavors and is currently employed in Parliament, believes that a dedicated musician can achieve success by actively participating in performances.

"I urge Lango musicians to transform their thinking and set ambitious goals instead of merely flaunting their status," he stated. "I referred to them as gamblers because many fail to diligently enhance their musical talents and public presence. As an artist, it is unacceptable to be seen repeatedly in the same attire; this must change."

His heartfelt message has resonated with several prominent figures in Lango, who have encouraged artists to embrace it as an opportunity for growth rather than criticize him. Joe Waaaa, a music enthusiast from Lira town, remarked that Prince Yubu's words serve as a vital wake-up call for struggling musicians in Lango.

"Utilize this message to transform your lifestyle and songwriting approach to foster progress," he advised, noting the unfortunate reality that some Lango artists have yet to expand their reach beyond the region. Okello Isaac has called upon local leaders in Lango to seek resources to support these emerging talents.

In the wake of the loss of celebrated Lango music icons such as DJ Super and Mzee B, the subregion finds itself lagging behind as Acholi talents continue to rise swiftly.
