Lira ! Lango Cultural Foundation Sets Date for Normination of Wonyaci Candidates

  LIRA|UGANDA; In a separate development, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission for the Lango Cultural Foundation under Yosam Odur Ebii Rtd Col Dan Opito Odwee, has declared nomination date of candidates for Wonyaci .

While addressing the media in Lira City on Wensday, he said the event will take place from Friday, the 13th, to Saturday, the 14th. 

Chairperson Opito also informed the media that they are fully prepared to oversee the electoral process revealing, three candidates, Dr. Richard Nam from Okiiamat, Benjamin Okii from Okiibura, and Dan Okello—have already submitted their nomination fees at the commission's offices. 

He committed to ensuring that the election is conducted in a free and peaceful manner. Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Abal, who is also a clan leader of Arak Ongonda, stated that once the nominations are complete, candidates will be permitted to campaign throughout Lango to gather support. 

 Abal further encouraged Lango community to welcome and assist the candidates as they seek votes. 

This publication has learned that the team is already mobilizing resources to initiate the electoral process, including collecting funds from various clans.

Since March, a faction of Owitong has opposed the election of Eng Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, alleging that the previous election was marred by fraud. Although the team is set to hold elections in October, Minister of Gender, Labor, and Social Development has officially recognized Eng. Dr. Moses Odongo Okune as the new Paramount Chief, a decision that has faced pushback from the retiring Wonyaci.
