Lira Catholic Bishop Denies Rallying Behind Minister Amongi as battle for Woman City MP Continues

Lira, Ug: Bishop of Lira catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev Santos Lino Wannock has denied endorsing and backing Minister Amongi in her intention to contest as Lira City Woman parliamentary race.
Recently there has been reports alleging that the Bishop of Lira catholic Diocese instructed all catholic church members to support Minister Amongi in a race against Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng who is a devoted born again Christian.
It was alleged that the bishop himself had several meetings with Amongi to develop strategies for their victory.
However, on Friday February 23, 2024 , the catholic church known for promoting peace dismissed this allegation saying the it is baseless and has no concrete evidence.
Speaking to the media in Lira Fr. Emmanuel Opio the diocesan chancellor said they have no connection with Minister Amongi's political bid, also they can't not force people to elect someone, they should elect candidate of their choice.
He said as the church they are independent and cannot impose Minister Amongi to their Christians.
He said that catholic church cherished love, peace and unity.
He added, Bishop of Lira catholic Diocese, rt Rev Santos Lino Wannock has no hand in fronting or bringing Minister Amongi in Lira City to unseat Dr. Aceng has being claimed.
Fr. Opio also said as the church they are ready to work with anyone elected by people.
In 2023, Minister Amongi declared her intention to unseat Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng in 2026.
Since then up-to-date, cultural leaders , clergymen and business men are divided.
