Minister Aceng Commissions Distribution of text books for Secondary schools in Lira

Lira, Ug: Headteachers of 27 government and private secondary schools in Lira City on Saturday Feb 24 received text books for the new curriculum from the Ministry of Education and Sports, handed over to them by Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ochero.
Lango College, Lira SS, Lira Town College, Bright Light College and 23 others were among the beneficiaries.

Every year, Ministry of Education and Sports mobilizes text books for all secondary schools in Uganda and distribute countrywide. However, Lira City schools have always missed out on this precious opportunity.
Hon. Dr. Aceng expressed her disappointment over she said this has prompted her to take a deliberate step to ensure Lira City schools receive their share this time.
"I got disappointed because last year, none of the secondary schools in Lira City received the text books and that's why this year, I liased with the Resident City Commissioner Egole Lawrence RCC Lira City to mobilize the headteachers to write to the commissioner of Instructional materials through me as their Woman MP Lira City. I saw that there was an urgent need to pick these text books for the 27 schools so that we end the story of scarcity of the text books from the schools." she said.
She pledged to continue following up on the books to ensure that the state of education and performance not only in Lira City but in the entire Lango sub region is improved. She advised the headteachers to be vigilant in requesting for these text books.
"As the Woman MP of Lira City, I pledge that I shall be transporting these text books whenever they come and ensure that they arrive to the various secondary schools in Lira City.", she added.
The ceremony which was attended by headteachers and various stakeholders of the education sector took place at Lira City Mayor's Garden.
