Lira among the areas with high crime rates
Uganda Police has ranked Lira City Council on the list of 10 top areas with highest crime rate in Uganda.
The place which under the leadership of two prominent politicians, Jimmy James Akena upc president also mp for Lira City East, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Minister of Health also woman mp for Lira City became number three on the list.
In his report released on Thursday 22, March 2024, Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola disclosed, Kampala Capital City became number one with 4,291, cases followed by Luwero with 4,111 cases. Lira city came third with 3,571 cases.
North Kyoga region overall recorded 17,995 crime cases while Rwizi region had 16,987 cases filed.
North Kyoga region in particular had highest cases of assault standing at 3,389, followed by Rwizi region with 1,831 cases.
Lira city East division was 4th countrywide with highest cases of defilement with 134 cases filed.
North Kyoga region police spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema told media that the will analyst the report and take action accordingly to address.
