Lira City: Minister Aceng Empowers 50 community groups in her move to fight poverty

Lira, Uganda: Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero,the  woman MP for Lira City has supported 50 community groups in her constituency as she joins government's efforts in poverty alleviation.

Currently, the NRM government has come up with several wealth creation projects like PDM , Emyooga , youthlivehod programs among others to  improve on  household income.

To bolster her support , Minister Aceng has started injecting part of her salary and savings to uplift her electorates from the poverty cycle.

On Monday 18, March 2024, the Minister made a surprise  visit to the community of lwal Ward,Lira city East Division where she supported the registered community groups with capital to boost their businesses.

According to Bonnficae Otucu, her Personal Assistant the groups that have benefited already are in , Ongura, Ongica, Acwao, Arumgai, Iwal and Abongoden all in Lira City East Division.

He told this publication that their team intends to meet all the dully registered groups in Lira City and support them with Capital to start up small scale business.

Much as some greedy leaders have discouraged the Minister from distributing the money as a grant instead of loans, Dr. Jane Aceng said she  cannot steal her voters by getting profit out of that.

She urged the beneficiaries to avoid reckless suspending and invest this funds into productive activities.

The Minister in her program on Monday supported the groups with 16 Million Ugx in Iwal ward and 9 Million Ugx only to electorates of Railway ward respectively.

She is set on Thursday this week to continue with her program in Ngetta and later proceed to Lira City West Division.

While canvasing  for votes  in Lira City in the 2021 electios,the health  Minister pledged to improve on household income by fighting poverty.
