Alebtong Saturday 20-04-2024: Govement Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua has urged his constituents to embrace Government programs that targets poverty alleviation and improved Livelihoods and household earnings.

"The government of Uganda has disbursed a hundred million shillings to each parish in the country and in Adwir Subcounty here you have five parishes which means government has sunk here a collosal sum of Ugx 500m"Obua told his constituents who had turned up to wittiness the commissioning of a classroom block constructed by Plan Uganda- an international NGO 

The vocal and eloquent Ajuri legislator told the electorates that capital development such as roads and schools is the role of government but the fight against poverty is their core mandate and further appealed to them to utilize other fundings such as that of Emyooga to improve on their household incomes.

“The primary role of leaders at my level is to lobby for development from government and partners like we are doing,” the GCW told his people

Adding: “For the next ten years, Plan International will only operate in Alebtong District for Lango Sub Region. We have lobbied and transformed Adwir from two parishes to five parishes forming a Sub-County. Now, there is an ongoing construction of a seed school, two handheld tractors and a health centre among other developments in addition to Alololo and Okuro primary schools rehabilitated by World Bank”

Meanwhile in his address the Headteacher of Ajobi primary school Emmanuel Okello reported to the minister that the school is exelling extremely in academics and co-curricular activities and that their enrollment has since increased to 1063 pupils.

But such achievemente does not come without a pinch of salt, According to Mr.Okello,the school lacks accomodation for statff and reported that out of 12 teachers only three have accommodation within the school while the rest have to commute from their houses adding that desks are also inadequate enough for his pupils.

He also blamed Parents for not embracing the schol feeding program in the school hence affecting the performance of learners.

Moses Acar,the area councillor of Ocokober parish where the school is located appealed to minister Obua to loby government to rebuild Ayumu bridge which is now impassable as aresult of the heavy downpour. On this the minister read out a letter which he has wrote in March to the minister for Works and Transport Gen Katumba Wamala requesting for culverts to aid the district to improve on ghe status of Ayumu bridge.

Meanwhile Orach also stressed the need for Ajobi primary school to be connected to the power grid to improve academic performance in the school.

Other leaders who spoke at the event commended Obua's lobbying accumen that has seen the Subcounty of Adwir and others in Alebtong benefit from the national cake citing the construction of seed Secondary schools that are currently ongoing in Ajuri-Alebtong district.

Bonny Ocen Abua, the secretary works and technical services who spoke on behalf of the LCV chairperson Alebtong said they have plans to drill more boreholes for the community and to grade more roads.
