S.G Todwong Tells Lango NRM to Be Firm Amidst Intimidation from opposition

The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has urged party leaders and supporters in the Lango sub-region to resist intimidation and misinformation from certain opposition factions as the 2026 general election campaigns approach.

During a meeting in Lira city with NRM leaders from the ten districts of the area, Todwong emphasized the strength of NRM supporters in Lango, stating, "NRM supporters are the majority in Lango. Why should you be bullied by the minority? Stand up and speak out about the positive contributions of President Museveni and his administration instead of feeling victimized and powerless."

He further remarked, "NRM is recognized for fostering unity, prosperity, and peace across the nation, in stark contrast to previous administrations known for human rights abuses and state-sponsored violence."

Todwong also criticized certain party members for associating with opposition figures, warning that such actions could undermine party support. "Be NRM in every aspect, day and night. If you are everywhere, you are effectively nowhere as a leader," he cautioned.

He added, "Divided loyalty breeds greed, selfishness, and complacency among leaders, which is unacceptable in our mass party."

Todwong assured that the Secretariat leadership is committed to revitalizing the enthusiasm and spirit of supporters in the region to enhance the party's appeal in upcoming elections and beyond.

Regarding wealth creation, he advised the NRM to focus on addressing the critical issues facing the populace rather than lamenting the party's recent electoral setbacks in Lango. "Voters choose leaders who resonate with their aspirations and concerns. If the NRM neglects them, they will turn to other parties in search of hope and improved livelihoods," Todwong stated, addressing concerns from leaders about the rising opposition in Lango.

"You must advocate for improved service delivery by condemning corruption and opposing the excessive charging of school fees in government institutions," he concluded.

The Apac district Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Susan Engola revealed that internal scribbles among the party members are to partly blame for the decline in performance of the NRM.

"The bickering has given an opportunity to our opponents to make quick inroads into some of the NRM territories yet with cohesion, such negative forces would be contained.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman reiterated that leaders endeavor to resist wrong things even if they are done by the government officials.

“This is the way we shall make our party popular and likeable in the population,” Tanga said, imploring the leaders to renew their faith and commitment ahead of the vigorous campaign.

The three-day activity which began today was also attended by NRM Directors, Hon. Emmanuel Dombo for communications, Hajjat Medina Naham for Finance and Administration, Counsel Awich Polar, the Director for External Relations and Maj. Okwir Rabwoni, the director of Youth and Institutions.

SG Todwong tomorrow together his team and area legislators will traverse Kwania, Apac and Dokolo districts to attend community barazas aimed at diagnosing the issues related to fishing communities challenges and wetlands usage.
