Dokolo, Ug: NRM aspirants to step down for Flag bearer Emmanuel Dombo meets Dokolo leaders over by-election

   Emmanuel Dombo who is the Communication officer for National Resistance Movement (NRM) has  met and held discussions with leaders from Dokolo District over the Dokolo by-election.

The meeting took place on Saturday at Dokolo catholic parish hall in Dokolo district.

The meeting organized by the NRM secretariat led by  Emmanuel Dombo the Communication officer was attended by, the District executive committee.

The Electoral Commission recently released the electoral programme for by-election of Woman Member of Parliament for Dokolo District.

The seat fell vacant following the death of the former Member of Parliament Iron Lady Cecilia Atim Ogwal.

During the meeting, all the seven aspirants were given an opportunity to sell their candidature to the leaders who attended.

They included,Iryne Amogi Ajwika ,Abang Betrace Molly Kia ,Dr Lalam Grace Hanna Atine, Lillian Auma Okullu, Rebecca Arao , Judith Ayugi and Adongo Jenet Elau the Flag bearer.

In the meeting, Only two NRM aspirants  agreed to step down for Adongo Jenet Elau the Flag bearer and four declined to step down and 

they include Dr Lalam Grace Hanna Atine, Amongi Iryne Ajwika, Abang Betrace Molly Kia and Rabbeca Arao.

Speaking to the delegation from Dokolo, Emmanuel Dombo commended leaders from Dokolo district for mediating the aspirants and also thanked those who step down .

“If Cecilia had not died, we would not have elections in that area until 2026. So I think the decent thing to do is to support the flag bearer to complete the term," Dombo said.

Dombo said that it is a matter of decency but also avoiding wastage of time.

He added that if the Flag bearer does not perform in the remaining two years, then they may come back and compete with her in the next elections.

“People get tired of endless elections. , I think it is really decent. It is decent to say let the flag bearer go. If she is given a chance and she doesn’t perform we shall see.:

Dombo also commended people of Dokolo district for voting Okot Ogong and Moses Ogwal Goli in 2021 election saying they vote wisely.

He commented the aspirants for putting the party first before self and agreeing to step aside for a smooth process.

“Am happy to hear from you yourself. You can come and compete with the flag bearer 2026 if she doesn’t perform. So am very glad to hear this, thank you," he said.

He however appealed to those who declined to step down to think twice before they move a head to compete with Flag bearer saying they will only rally support for only flag bearer ,asking them to shun politic of identity, culture and acrimony.

" Bible says How good bretheren to be together, working together are we NRM" Dombo said.

He called for peace,love, unity and harmony among the contestants.

One of the Aspirants  Irene Amongi Ajwika, said “In spirit of the party and for continuation of NRM in Dokolo district I have decided to step down and Come us independent when elected iwill sign amemorandum of understanding." 

Meanwhile Rose mary Nasubuga Seninde ,the Director Mobilisation  commended the party leaders for mediating all those who expressed interest.

“Thank for you for the time to attend to the candidates. I appreciate them for the decisions they have taken. Am happy with the decisions they have taken."

Seninde asked those who declined to step down to abide by the NRM constitution.

"I'm appealing to you let us abide by the NRM constitution and support our flag bearer." Seninde said.

She however, disclosed that on 22 February there will be a conference in Dokolo.
